Do you realize Satan's first lie was recorded in Genesis 3:17... "You will not surely die"? What he was actually saying is that we are immortal and will live forever, even after death!

This has been repeated millions of times in Christian churches since then. Christians just accept it without ever really questioning it. Everyone WANTS to believe the devil's lie that they will live forever after they die (hopefully in the Kingdom of Heaven and not Hell). Does Scripture really tell us this?

We believe when we die, our immortal soul goes to heaven or hell. Is that really true? Is this teaching exclusive to Christianity? Did you know almost all religions throughout history believe there is actually a spirit in us that lives on immortal after death? Most church leaders believe this Christianized version of an "Immortal Spiritual Essence" doctrine like most of the pagans do, but is such an important belief actually spelled out in the Bible? Why do we believe it says that?

Is the term "immortal" ever connected with "soul" anywhere in the Bible either in the Old Testament or the New Testament? Most Christians never ask where this belief came from. We just assume it says it without question. Was it ever taught to the early church by Jesus' disciples?

Did the idea of an immortal spirit come from Greek philosophers? Did their beliefs influence Christian doctrine? Is our "Spirit," the thing that makes "me" actually "me," able to live forever, never being able to die? Can my spirit be destroyed? Does it live forever in heaven or hell after we die? Do you know what God actually says about this?

Does God's Word literally say the soul can die in Ezekiel 18:4? Are those words actually in Scripture, more than one time, again in Ezekiel 18:20? Are the wages of sin death, or eternal life in hell? Is death the irreversible total end of our life forever, or life in another form? Does Isaiah 55:3 and Psalm 119:175 show us it's our choice if we want our "Spiritual Essence," our "Self," to live? Doesn't it make you stop and ask how this false doctrine got into the Christian church in the first place with all the plain words about it in God's Word?
